Transportation Options in Stoneham

Stoneham Senior Center Van

The Stoneham Senior Center provides to residents living independently in the community transportation to and from the Senior Center, grocery shopping, Main Street Quick Stops, Cheap Eats, shopping trips to Walmart and other local retail locations, Monday thru Friday. Please call the Center for the fixed schedule to each of these destinations, or go to our website at www.stonehamseniorcenter.org for more information.

Volunteers provide medical transportation, Monday thru Friday, to doctor’s offices in Stoneham, Winchester, Melrose, Wakefield, the Reading Health Center and Lahey Clinic (14 day advance notice required).

The Ride offers door-to-door, shared-ride transit service to cities and towns in and around Boston who cannot use bus, subway or trolley service because of a physical, cognitive or mental disability. You must call The Ride to apply for eligibility.

The service operates seven days a week from 5:00 AM to 1:00 AM. Only registered Ride customers, Personal Care Assistants and their guests may use this service, local one-way fare when booked 1-7 days in advance is $3.15.

Free, passenger-controlled transportation program for older adults and adults living with disabilities in Stoneham and other surrounding towns.

Do you have someone willing to offer a helping hand (friends or neighbors, others) willing to drive you to a destination? This program will reimburse your driver for mileage.

MBTA Bus #132 (Main Street – Stoneham, MA)

MBTA bus #132 starts at Redstone Shopping Center and ends at Malden Center Station (Orange Line), with multiple stops along Main Street in Stoneham (stops are marked with signs), and Oak Grove Station (Orange Line) in Melrose.

The bus schedule is as follows:

Weekdays:  6:00 AM to 11:30 PM
Saturdays:  8:00 AM to 7:30 PM

The fare is $.85 per ride with a “Charlie Card”

Senior Center Announcements
We Need Muscle! If you know of anyone who is available to work 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM every Thursday for the next four months,we need help with trash removal, deliveries, and general heavy lifting. Must be able to pass a CORI check. Call Mary Z at (781) 438-1157 on Tuesday, Wenesday or Thursday if interested.


Special Inclement Weather Note
If the Stoneham School System is closed due to inclement weather the Stoneham Senior Center will also be closed that day. If you question whether or not the Center will be open, just give us a call at (781) 438-1157 before coming. Closing announcements will also be made on our Facebook Page and Twitter feed.

For the safety of everyone, please park in designated, marked spaces only. When you are driving into the parking lot, please follow the signs that direct you to circle the building in a counter-clockwise direction.
